Experiencing acupuncture for the first time can be relaxing and you would like to know more about the process of this ancient healing system.

These FAQs aims to clarify any questions that you may have and guide you about the process

What to do before the appointment?
It is advised to come to the treatment with a relaxed body and mind. Please avoid scheduling anyexhausting activity right before or after the treatment.

What to wear, eat, drink before the session?
Wear loose and comfortable clothing so that the practitioner could easily access to the various body areas.
Do not come to appointment with empty stomach. However, do not havea heavy meal before or after the session.
Drink reasonable amount of water before and after the session. Hydration is important to release the toxins out of your system.
Avoid caffeine for a couple of hours before the treatment as caffeine is a nervous system stimulant and can counteract the effects of the acupuncture.
Alcohol consumption is also not advised prior to and immediately after the treatment. Alcohol is neurotoxic that can work against the healing process.
When you brush your teeth, please avoid brushing your tongue for 24hours before the appointment. The color and texture of your tongue coating are important diagnostic clues in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

What to expect from the first acupuncture session?
There will be an intake session to get detailed information about your main complaint, medical history, lifestyle, and habits to understand how your body is behaving at the moment your treatment starts. Then, the practitioner will decide how to proceed with the session.
Very thin, sterile, single use needles will be placed into acupuncture points that corresponds to your specific needs, then you will be left to rest for about 30-40 minutes. At the end of the session the needles will be removed,and the practitioner will answer any questions that you may have. A treatment plan will be given before you leave that suggests how often you will need to come in.

Does acupuncture hurt?
The experience varies from person to person, and you may be more sensitive in certain areas however mostly acupuncture does not hurt.
Acupuncture needles are very thin, while the needles are inserted you may feel a tiny pinch or prick which lasts a few seconds and hardly feel anything once they are placed in.

How long does the follow-up treatment take?
A follow-up acupuncture treatment lasts about 1 hour and includes time to talk about your progress.
